- Work with clean, damp hair
- Map out your braid design either on paper or directly on the scalp
- Section the hair to set the foundation for the cornrows
- Contain sections with pins or other hair tools to get them out of the way and work each individually
- Start a three strand braid, crossing the strands under each other instead of over
- Grab a small section of hair from the scalp
- Add the small section to the braid ensuring to stay close to the roots
- Maintain tension on the hair but do not pull too tight
- Continue in this manner until you can no longer braid onto the scalp
- Finish the braid with a snag free rubber elastic or other hair tool.
