Make Nice Nubian Knots
Nubian knots are a fashionable look for men and women that doesn't require the use of hair extensions. Using your natural hair, you - or a stylist - can recreate this hair style in less time than it takes to do many of the other well known braid styles.
The reason? Nubian knots are simple single stand twists (where you take a section of damp or wet hair and wrap it around your finger or rattail comb several times until the section is tight against the scalp). Once the twist is done from root to tip, you hold the root of the section between your thumb and index finger while winding the hair around the base over and over again until you only have the tip of the section between your fingers.
How do the knots (sometimes called "chiney bumps" because of their resemblance to the fasteners on Asian-styled clothing) stay in place? That depends on how big your sections are. You can use most any hair accessory although most people tend to use hair tools that match their hair color.
Nubian Knots: How to make them like a professional
For example, if you have shorter hair that is curly, try fixing each section with standard hair pins before adding a few decorative hair pins or flowers for a beautiful finish.
Those with longer hair may want to try hair friendly rubber bands. With a bit of practice, you may be able to get the nubian knot to stay close to your scalp without the use of any hair accessories. The trick here is to ensure that you wind the hair around the base until the tip can be tucked into the base of each of the knots you've created and no longer be seen.
Another benefit of this braids hair style is that when you're done wearing it after a day or two you will be left with a nice curl affect in your hair that you can wear for another few days after that. Just be sure to do a dry shampoo in between the hair change in order to keep your mane fresh!
If adding sheen to your style is important, then try a hair shine gloss spray, clear hair gloss or hair serum (these products can also produce a temporary straightening effect on tightly curled hair).
